Do not go gentle into that good night.

Also: We will not go quietly into the night.

Status: Definitely not Shakespeare.

First spotted: Shakespeare t-shirt

The creator of this t-shirt got off lucky, as he didn’t put the word Shakespeare on the shirt itself.  He did, however, categorize it as Shakespeare and use that as a tag for searching.   The quote is a very well known one, made popular in a number of movies such as Back to School:

And, even though he badly misquotes it, Independence Day:

The original author is poet Dylan Thomas:

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rage at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

  1. First things first from a Geeker. Great idea and a great design, Duane! Good luck with your new addition!

    Second: The attempt to capture the tone and themes of the “band of brothers” exhortation make the “Independence Day” speech and poor Bill Pullman even lamer. They’d have been better off quoting a few lines. Woul’ve shown Pullman’s character was at least well read enough and humble enough to know he couldn’t do better.
